5 Social Media Hacks to Take Your Brand to the Top!
By Aditi Bhat
Don’t you wish you were one of those big buck brands with the liberty to splurge millions of dollars on social media and digital marketing? But guess what – social media doesn’t care about your budget. All it cares about is creativity, originality, and awe-inspiring content.
If you want to get your digital marketing strategy bang on, here are five social media hacks for 2018 that will help you get your brand to the top –
1. Leverage micro-moments
Micro-moments are certain moments where the intent of the customer to buy, discover, learn or pretty much do anything, is much higher than normal. If you can leverage these moments, you are in a better position to draw your audience to your brand.

Identify the micro-moments associated with your product category and develop content around the same.
Example: If you’re a football kit retailer, develop content around football techniques, dribbles, how to find the right studs etc. These are the common searches among your target audience.
2. Follow the Russian tactic
Heard about the way the Russians ‘apparently’ meddled with the US Presidential Elections? Even if the reports aren’t true, the method that the Russians allegedly used is something that we should all learn from. Learn from them and study your target audience’s mental dispositions and pre-conceived notions, and use them to create content that will have a high click-through rate.
Example: Have a customer base that’s crazy about football? Start a debate regarding who is better – Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi? You are bound to get clicks, shares, and loads of comments!
3. Use chatbots
This is the age of ‘instant messages’ and low attention spans. If you miss out on the chance to interact with your customers, someone else will steal them from you. You should be available 24X7 at your customers’ disposal. And what better way to do that than to employ chatbots? They will always be at the service of your customer till you take charge.

Example: Pizza Hut’s chatbot successfully takes online orders after displaying pizzas according to the users’ preference!
Install a chatbot and program it to answer some of the most basic questions. Most chatbots today are intelligent, and can understand the basic keywords in the messages well enough to send a response.
4. Use social media stories
People are consuming more stories on Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat than other forms of content. The reason is simple – stories are short and get over within 10 seconds or so, and this perfectly correlate with the attention span of today’s social media consumers.
The number of users consuming Instagram stories has risen exponentially - from 50 million at the start of 2016 to over 300 million by the end of 2017.
Example: CPK Frozen Pizza used a simple cinemagraph to make the mundane cheese-grating process appear fascinating.

5. Capitalize on trends
A lesson every digital marketing course will teach you - nothing can make your organic reach explode as much as capitalizing on Twitter (and other social media) trends. Always have a rapid response team that’s both quick-witted and efficient, and can develop content on the fly.
Example: During the NBA Super Bowl in 2013, the lights went off for a while. Oreo’s social media team was quick enough to come up with a tweet that said ‘You can still dunk in the dark’. The tweet received over 14,000 re-tweets and 6,000 likes.

You can use trending hashtags and tailor your content to it. However, ensure it never looks forced.
